    Healthiest Greens?

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has a chart or knows which green leafy vegetables are the most nutritious... I know iceberg is no good and spinach is great but other than that I have no idea... Where does cabbage fall? I really like cabbage and want to start basing my diet on cabbage if it is, indeed, nutrient dense... Can anyone help? Much thanks.

    Healthiest Greens?

Thanks, Dean... For the comment and the list!!! Now I know what to look for in the grocery store... Right now, I'm sticking to green cabbage, but would once a week be enough to have the red cabbage and reap its benefits? If not, how often would be the minimum?? I was thinking about switching my regular cabbage for red cabbage on Fridays... I'm currently doing regular cabbage on every day except Friday and Savoy cabbage on Fridays...

    Red Tea with Foamed Milk

Not really much of a recipe, but something I have almost every day... One cup of Rooibos Red Tea, steeped for five minutes with a tablespoon of foamed milk... It's delicious...

How many people are actively on a CR diet?

Hey quick question:: How many people here are actively on a CRON diet vs. people on here just for information/people not yet on the diet??? Just curious... I still struggle to stay on a CR diet despite being a member since mid 2012... 😕

    Macro Ratios

Hi, Can anyone tell me what an optimal macro ratio would be fat to carbs to protein for a CRON diet or does it vary by the individual?... I'm thinking about doing 33% for all. Thanks, Fred

    Macro Ratios

K cool... Makes sense. Thanks. Watched the video. I'll try to throw a few raspberries in my salad or have a some strawberries for breakfast everyday but that's about all I can do lol... I don't care for non-juiced fruit very much.

    Macro Ratios

Dean-- I am trying to come up with a diet today and plan out for the week on cronometer but don't want to be unrealistic about the fact that I might not like (taste-wise) what I put in cronometer regardless of what targets I hit. I should probably just gradually learn from my mistakes and find out what works for me, I'm guessing? I can do a low-calorie diet while hitting most of my micronutrients with the foods I mentioned (I think) from my previous experiences with the CRON diet. I will try to lower the fat but I cannot eat the cabbage without hummus and guacamole (for taste reasons). I have a limited budget and want to start this as soon as possible so I'm using online grocery ordering and cronometer to try and figure out what works. I get $200 a week for groceries so I think I start with the basics I mentioned earlier and spend $100 for the beginning of the week, see what works and then buy whatever else I need to buy a few days down the road if I encounter any problems... Do you think that should work? As far as fruit goes, I don't really like to eat raw fruit at all and very rarely eat it that way. It's always been a challenge for me. I do, however, like fruit juices (especially in the summer) and am wondering if a few glasses of real fruit juice during the day would work? I heard that pre-squeezed juice is not good because it does not contain the enzymes needed for a healthy diet. Is this really true and does it really matter that much? I could always squeeze a citrus fruit into a glass of water throughout the day and drink that, but I prefer pre-packaged fruit juices... Thoughts?

    Macro Ratios

Awesome. Thanks for the help. I don't want to obsess over measuring things, and I'm still new to this, so my goal right now should probably be to fulfill all micronutrients and keep protein under 20% with the remainder of fat and carbs ratio not really mattering that much but being high quality? I think my diet it good but I'm not sure. I am starting today and my goal is to boil a head of cabbage every day and eat it with low calorie salad dressing, eggs, red kidney beans, hummus, guacamole, olive oil, mixed nuts, flax oil and a mixture of vegetables... Does this sound like a good diet? Is there anything I am missing? Last time I did CR, this is what I ate (from what I can remember) and I did relatively well. I was not hungry at all due to the heaviness of the cabbage. Every week going to the grocery store was an adventure and I'm hoping it's just as much fun this time around.

    Nuts, Beans and Salt

Hi all, Can anyone tell me if there are any benefits to eating no-salt added beans and no-salt added nuts as opposed to the salted ones besides blood pressure? I have tried the no-salt added and I love the salted versions 10x more... Is it really worth the sacrifice to buy the no-salt versions or do you think I'll be alright? Any opinions?

How many people are actively on a CR diet?

oh ok... thank you for your input... I am now on 2000 cals/day and feeling great... Hoping to get down to 1600 in the next year or two...

How many people are actively on a CR diet?

OK Nice to know. Thank you for responding. I am hoping to achieve longevity but starting at age 36 is a little late I would imagine. I also don't want to do it all for nothing (I could get hit by a bus tomorrow)... But when I was on the diet a few years back for a month or so, I never felt better.

    Starting a CR Diet

Hey Brian, I am more concerned with longevity vs. brain function. I have fried my brain with so many drugs that I doubt a little booze will make much of a difference at this point... As long as I can get by day to day and feel like I have some intelligence, that's good enough for me... lol... Thanks for the article though, Fred

    Starting a CR Diet

Hi, After many failed attempts, I am hoping to be on a CRON diet by July 21 of this year. I'm gonna start from June 21-July 21 doing a 30 day fast for personal reasons then I am going to start CR immediately afterwards... My question is this:: It has been said that CR is only effective when weaned onto it and not going cold turkey. But, I am also 5'2" and weigh 220 lbs and want to be down to a thinner weight for my vacation in December... Where should I start calorie wise if I want to lose weight at the same time? 2000 maybe? and how many calories should I cut per week to get down to a lower daily calorie intake? 20? I am still new to all this! Any help would be appreciated... Thanks! Fred

    Starting a CR Diet

OK... thanks for the info CJay... I'll try to read and digest that fasting paper later on today... I really like fasting as a quick fix for weight loss despite it being not exactly the healthiest option... I am now consuming 800 calories per day most of which come from creamer and sugar to my coffee... Working on changing that though...

    Starting a CR Diet

Thanks for the tips DreWab... I will keep them in mind as I try to change my diet to a healthier one. How important is limiting alcohol? I saw in an interview that April Smith and Michael Rae drink a glass of red wine every night with dinner and I like to have a glass of Sebastiani red wine every night and it would be hard to give up... What if I drink a glass every night for a few years then wean off it? Would it really make that much of a difference? Just curious..

    Starting a CR Diet

OK Sounds good... The first two days weren't good, I gave in and started eating and am currently on a low-calorie diet (not fasting) and am losing weight pretty quickly... I am hoping to do the fast later on this year... My goal is to be 123lbs by my vacation in December... Quite a goal, but I think I can do it... Thanks for the help... :)

    Starting a CR Diet

I think I read it in "The CR Way" or "The Longevity Diet"... not sure which but I am 100% sure I read it... It said that in mice, going cold turkey CR resulted in a lessened lifespan...

    Any good salad dressing recipes?

Hi, I have recently started CRON-dieting and am not sure if I am doing it right (see my other recent post). I am trying to do a diet based on salads for a few months then jump into other things as I find recipes I like and things that will work for me. For now, since I am sticking to mainly salads can anyone suggest any of their favorite CRON salad dressing recipes. I would buy like Kraft or Ken's but they have so many chemicals and are not really as healthy as I had hoped. I can make my own but I really want them to be tasty. Red wine vinegar and olive oil alone are so boring! Does any one have any really tasty low-calorie salad dressings they have used over the years that they'd be willing to share? I'd appreciate it... Thanks! Fred

    Red Cabbage with Balsamic Vinaigrette

Not really much of a recipe, but for the longest time I was making boiled red cabbage with boiled red onions, then draining them and adding a small amount of red balsamic vinagrette dressing to make a small meal. The three foods pair really well, I think, and are one of my favorite meals!

    Problems with Olive Oil

So, Growing up (I'm 34) I remember hearing a lot about how extra virgin olive oil was really healthy for you, especially in Mediterranean-type diets... However, I recently read a webpage (http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=56) that says that cooking with EVOO is NOT healthy for some reason... Also, I read somewhere that unless you get EVOO fresh that has NOT been exposed to oxygen, you will not reap the benefits... Do I have anything to worry about? Fred

    Intermittent Fasting

Hi, I am wondering if someone who's 5'2" like myself could maintain a physique that would turn heads at the beach (lean/muscular, not too thin) while being on a 2,000 calorie diet M,W,F with feeding times at 8:00AM and 8:00PM (1,000 calories per meal) and a 800 calorie diet on T,R OMAD... still have not decided what I will do S,S...but might do either: a fast both days or 2,000 cal OMAD depending on how thin I become once I start CRON. I know I have been on and off CRON several times over the years and my posts might get annoying but I'm trying to do what's right for myself without being too extreme/hopeful... What is your opinion?
