Hi, I've gone on a calorie restriction diet because I've been diagnosed with a tongue cancer, I've been on a calorie restriction diet for 11 days today, and am at around 800 calories a day at the moment. I've read and heard that the lower the protein the better potential to halt cancer progressing. The only problem is that I am only 111lb weight 5ft 9" male and don't want to lose any more weight. I'm on a 2:1 fat to protein (in grams) zero carb ketogenic diet. It's said that 0.6g protein per kg is the least amount I could eat a day for my weight (that would be 30g), but some sources say that the protein amount is actually calculated for the average healthy weight you should be for your height, so that would mean 30g a day would be far too low? the charts give my lowest healthy weight at 128lb, so for 0.6g protein per kg this would be = 35g protein as the lowest I could go? Any thoughts?
  2. University College London are running a short (15 min) online study to investigate differences in thinking abilities when on CR. This study has been preliminarily vetted by CR Society VP for Research. We are aware that there is a lot of data to support the link between CR and benefits to health, but there is currently little known about the impact of CR on cognition, particularly executive function. We are comparing the results of those on a popular intermittent fasting (IF) plan (5:2) with those who have daily CR lifestyles to see if there is a difference. Our hypothesis is that those on daily CR will with have better results for certain tests relating to executive function, when compared to those on IF. We intend to publish the results next year and we believe this will be of enormous value both to the scientific community, and to anyone who is considering their options for ways in which to improve their health. Anyone who contacts us will be sent the participant information sheet and a consent form to return before they receive a link to 5 short online tasks. All data is protected and confidential ID numbers used to further protect our participants. This study has passed rigorous ethics procedures.     Sleep thought of the day

    There are many factors, which act as stressors on the body, and seem to contribute to improved health outcomes. Some of these include: Exercise Fasting Cold exposure Caloric restriction Heat exposure Particular foods that exert hormetic effects (ie. cruciferous vegetables) Some of the above are not without their controversies, but it's interesting that mild sleep deprivation (a mild stressor) doesn't elicit a hormetic effect. Or perhaps it does? Has anyone else had this curious thought before and unpacked it a little?
