nicholson Report post Posted October 2, 2015 I tripped over this seemingly comprehensive list of the polyphenol and anti-oxidant content of foods. Possibly a list it would be a good idea not to lose? Not sure where to put it, but 'CR Recipes' comes close. Nor am I sure what I should do with the information. So, input will be appreciated: http://www.nature.com/ejcn/journal/v64/n3s/fig_tab/ejcn2010221t1.html Rodney.
nicholson Report post Posted October 2, 2015 It may be worth noting that the food at the top of the above list contains 245 times as much polyphenols as extra-virgin olive oil and 291 times as much antioxidants. In addition, 100 g of the top-listed item contains contains one-third as many calories as the 100 ml of olive oil. So if my arithmetic is correct we are talking roughly 750 times as much polyphenols per calorie for the top item, compared with extra-virgin olive oil. Rodney. notmuffy Report post Posted April 30, 2016 This is great -- I went and bought powdered cloves today to put in my coffee every day.
Dean Pomerleau Report post Posted April 30, 2016 Welcome to the CR Forums NotMuffy - great profile pic! I also appreciate Rodney's list - thanks Rodney! I've been adding a touch of ground clove, as well as a little amla powder (Indian gooseberries) to my coffee/tea/cacao brew for a while now. --Dean
Sthira Report post Posted May 2, 2016 ...a little amla powder... Is it me, or does amla powder taste like a barn?
Dean Pomerleau Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Sthira, Is it me, or does amla powder taste like a barn? My TerraSoul Amla Powder doesn't taste like a barn. A bit bitter/sour perhaps, but mixed in (in small amounts) with either coffee/tea/cacao or in my xylitol/eyrethritol-sweetened mouth rinse it is quite pleasant. Having said that, I note that the particular vendor at Amazon for Terrasoul Amla power linked to above is not available now and appears to be under some sort of investigation by Amazon. Not sure what's going on except what I just saw on the Amazon Web page. I've never seen that before in years of buying from Amazon. Strange and a bit troubling... I'll keep an eye on it and let anyone know if I learn anything interesting. --Dean
