Mike Lustgarten
A reduced mortality risk and an increased lifespan has been reported for people who have APOE2 alleles, when compared with APOE3 or APOE4, but beyond associations, data for lifespan in APOE-expressing mice was recently reported, evidence that supports a causative role for APOE on longevity. Ron Put
Yep, it certainly looks like it. But we are complex systems and there are a lot of moving parts for each of us. A particular allele or a group may often be a significant factor, but it's rarely the decisive one. An APOE2 individual on a diet of Coke, booze, KFC and meth is unlikely to fare better than an APOE4 vegan who keeps healthy habits 🙂
