Are fake meats (eg beyond meat) healthy?

Recommended Posts

The canola oil isn't always cold-pressed.

They're also technically ultra-processed foods, though probably too recent to be important to contribute to statistics of ultra-processed foods. OTOH, their ingredients and nutritional values *generally* aren't *terrible* - it all depends on the processing that is involved..

They can be somewhat addicting, but they are usually not present enough in high quantities for me to eat **too** much of them.

Impossible Burgers have heme iron in them.

I don’t think they are healthy. I’ve had exactly one Impossible Burger in my life and didn’t care for it anyway. As for my own plant based burgers made out of ingredients like black beans, beets, onion, garlic, tomato, oat flour, and so forth… that’s another story! They are delicious, nutritious, and affordable. Maybe (and it’s a big maybe) these fake burgers could be healthier than meat based burgers, but they are not as healthy as whole foods. I guess if nothing else they are better for the environment and animal… and these are big things.
