Scientist create space salad

But, the article briefly mentions, but doesn't attempt to discuss the much more serious problem:  the intense cosmic radiation in deep space.

All space travel with living animals (human or otherwise) have been close enough to the Earth (including the ones to the moon, or the ISS), to be protected by the Earth's magnetic field, from intense cosmic radiation that permeates outer space.  I personally believe that nothing that humans can construct will be adequate to prevent extreme damage to almost any animal exposed to interplanetary space travel.  I think that this will make travel beyond Earth's protective magnetic field effectively impossible -- if we wish the participants to survive.  (In particular, I'm very skeptical about plans to send humans to Mars).
