drewab
Longitudinal body mass index and cancer risk: a cohort study of 2.6 million Catalan adults This paper is a fascinating study involving over 2.6 million adults in Spain, over close to a decade. It showed a number of things including: The longer an individual is overweight or obese, the higher the risk of developing cancer Gaining weight between age 18 and 40 is link to an increased risk of developing 18 types of cancer later in life (a greater the degree and a younger the onset, results in greater odds of cancer development) In even showed that a single elevated BMI measurement has been associated with increased risk of 13 cancers. This forest plot captures the data nicely IMO. It is interesting that some forms of cancer don't appear to be associated with an elevated BMI.
